In 2005, after ENDESA announced its plans for Aysen, local
organisations came together to inform the public and organise
themselves. In 2006, the Aysen Life Reserve Citizen Coalition was
founded. Then, in 2007, the Council for the Defence of Patagonia
(CDP) was established as a way to generate synergies between
organisations and individuals critical to the construction of dams
in Patagonia. Today, the CDP gathers together more than 80 local,
regional, national, and international organisations. It is also one
of the main networks of organisations behind PWD, one of the biggest
environmental campaigns and movements in Chile’s history
(CDP, 2007, n.d.-a, n.d.-b; Segura, 2010).
