Siengsanan-Lamont et al. (2013) indicated that some fighting cock owners moved their fighting cocks across provinces, but the actual distances traveled by fighting cocks’ owners have not been studied yet in Thailand. In the present study, we
focused on the trade networks supplying backyard chickens meat to markets; fighting cocks participate only sporadically
to these networks, as their old age diminishes the value to which they can be sold for meat. Despite these limitations,
findings from this study may help to identify critical points regarding the surveillance and control of avian influenza
viruses, including HPAI H5N1.
