Our methodology borrows from Antheil and Casper (1986), who propose that participant reaction is a measure of ‘‘customer satisfaction’’, indicating the level of effectiveness and usefulness of the training programme at the time the participants are experiencing it, or even weeks or months later. As such, it was decided to evaluate the satisfaction of trainees on different attributes of trainers, including communication and knowledge, drawn from the list of attributes necessary for an effective trainer (refer to Table I), by using a five-point Likert scale. The same was examined by the HR department of the organization to check their relevance. Considering these as the basic requirements of any trainer, we have framed the hypothesis of our study as under:
H1. Explanation of concepts, clarity in giving instructions for class exercises, comfort level with the subject matter, clarity in responding to questions, ability to keep the session lively and interesting, ability to use teaching aids effectively, and rapport with trainees are significant predictors of trainees’ satisfaction.
The study was conducted at the Allahabad unit of the organization, located in the State of Uttar Pradesh. The sampling frame consisted of 200 employees who have attended any of the training programmes mentioned earlier.
