some properties of interstitiospinal tract neurons
The IST originates from medium to small neurons in the interstitial nucleus of Cajal (INC) and descends in the dorsal part of the ventral funiculus, primarily ipsilaterally, as far as the sacral segments . IST fibers are of varying caliber and have conduction velocities between 15 and 123 m/sec. Some IST neurons may send branches to more than one level of the spinal cord.
