As a consequence the meat of Iberian pigs is in great demand, and
pigs fattened under the traditional system fetch prices up to
160% higher than conventionally raised animals, and dry
cured hams fetch between 350 and 500% higher (FAO, 2007).
Indeed, the main constraint to further increasing the output
of these products is not lack of demand, but the limited range
of the breed's traditional habitat.
