One-fifth (19.4%) of adolescent patients in this study
had delayed puberty. When compared with patients with
pubertal development, the height z-scores, BMI z-scores,
serum ferritin levels, and pretransfusion Hb levels were not
different statistically.
The prevalence of hepatitis B, C, and HIV was low in
our patients, as they receive properly tested blood. Only a
minority (9.73%) of patients required splenectomy
