3.3. Effect of NO treatment on firmness
Shoot firmness increased steadily, with about a 50% increase over the 10 day storage period at 10 °C (Fig. 3). Shoots treated with SNP showed a similar trend, but the firmness increase was retarded (P < 0.05), which corresponded to about a 30% increase over the same period. It is unlikely that weight loss was responsible for these differences in firmness, since there were no differences in weight loss among the treatments (data not shown).
