In the present study, we focused on the relationship between affect and conflict management styles. However, results are modest and only slight differences have been found. So, it is a particularly important question for future researchers to corroborate these findings in different populations and contexts. For example, it would be interesting to know how affect influences conflict management between marital couples or in work settings. Another important goal for future research will be to address the impact of pre-negotiation mood as it was postulated by Barry and Oliver (1996). In this case, we suggest using experimental designs to test causality between parties’ affect and conflict resolution behaviors. Moreover, as conflict behavior is multidimensional (Barry, 2008), future studies should examine in a comprehensive model both the role of cognition and affect in conflict handling.
