he Intercontinental has discretion written all over it. From the chic design and the ultra-professional (yet never cloying) staff, to the stunning business facilities or the beautifully appointed rooms, all luxury comforts are provided. Also, there are magic views of the city. All of this is provided with a distinct lack of extra toppings and theatrical song-and-dance. (Although the bellboys are wearing those safari hats so common to Bangkok luxury, appealing to strange remnants of colonial nostalgia.) Aside from its soothing style and its unobtrusive-yet-unquestionable good taste, the Intercontinental is noteworthy for its impeccable city location. While most of the luxury hotels are perched along the river, it's right in the upscale shopping and business heart of Bangkok. It's housed in the glass-encased President Tower arcade, home to a number of stylish restaurants.
