The UK is the world leader in installed capacity fo roffshore wind and generates just under 4.5 GW. This figure is likely to double by 2020. The Contracts for Differencen (Levy framework) will ensure that future off shore wind expands by setting lower costs from 2017 on wards. On the other hand, onshore wind faces challenges, mainly from development consent received from the Secretary of State or the relevant local planning authority, depending on the capacity of the wind farm. The former processes wind farm planning over 50 MW.
