Biofilm forming strains can easily adhere to surfaces
creating attached communities [29]. Due to the isolation from
the outer, unfavorable environmental conditions, they can survive
even under severe antibiotic treatment [30, 31]. Several
materials have been employed to prevent biofilm formation,
e.g. antibacterial polymers [32] or nanocomposites [33, 34].
Among the various metal nanoparticle–polymer composites,
silver nanoparticles, used as fillers, have strong antibacterial
activity, preventing biofilm formation [35]. In this regard,
chitosan–silver nanocomposites are perfect candidates for
biomedical applications, especially in traumatology and
orthopedic surgery
