Here, we report the upregulation of the apolipo protein A-IV protein
during HS. Apo A-IV is synthesized in the hypothalamus. The
infundibular nucleus has a high content of apo A-IV relative to other
areas of the central nervous system and is regulated physiologically
(Liu et al., 2003; Tso and Liu, 2004). Woods et al. proposed the hypothalamus
as a potential site where apo A-IV elicits an inhibitory
effect on food consumption because it is intimately involved in regulating
food intake and energy metabolism. Previously, it has been
claimed that the administration of Apo A-IV into the third cerebral
ventricle of rats decreased food intake (Fujimoto et al., 1993). Here, we
report that the expression level of Apo A-IV was upregulated during
HS in mouse pituitary gland, and our results corroborate the previous
claims that Apo A-IV is synthesized in the hypothalamus. In our study,
low food intake during HS might be correlated with the upregulation
of Apo a-IV, but this requires further investigation
