Presented in this chapter are the findings from this study that explored how
self-determination was exhibited by students with disabilities within the context of
higher education. The data for this study were gathered through in-depth interviews
with students with disabilities and their parent, professional, or other individual who
was familiar with the student’s pursuit of, and participation in, post-secondary
education. The themes that emerged from the data were derived from the actual postsecondary
education experiences of students with disabilities and shared through their
own voice. These themes provide a richer understanding of how self-determination is
