UTMC was operating a signal system which provided its team with regular live updates and allowed the facility to monitor traffic flow via sensors located at key locations across the region.
Yet as this system did not provide visual confirmation, it proved to be limited to effectively manage and control traffic issues, particularly around the Metro Centre which is located on the third most congested road in England. As a result, traffic delays for visitors to the shopping facility were reaching up to two hours, with regular complaints by customers being made with the centre. Without a CCTV solution, UTMC also struggled to confirm factual evidence of accidents and incidents in the area, making it difficult to proactively manage the resulting disruption and respond as quickly as possible.
