and has not replaced steel in its traditional uses, as was once anticipated. The two principal structural metals are complementary more than competitive. Aluminium is very easy to work with in the shop, and has indeed replaced the more expensive brass in many applications. Aluminium, however, cannot be soldered, which is a severe disadvantage. It is very easy to make aluminium castings.[
