Iodine passes the mammary barrier and is incorporated into the
milk. The iodine concentration in animals’ milk varies with the
varying concentration of iodine inwater, different foods, nutritional
supplements and drugs given by veterinarians.9,10 From 100 to
300 mg of iodine per liter of milk is a likely mean value considering
the different values of milk iodine.9 The iodine compounds generally
used as disinfectants of the udders or the tools may also be
modifying the iodine concentration of the milk.
