PBAT is a random copolymer of butylene adipate and Terphthalate whic
h has shown to
be fully biodegradable when composted. This polymer owes its biodegradabil
ity to butylene
adiapte group and owes its stability and mechanical properties to t
he therphthalate part.

Due to
the random structure of the copolymer, PBAT generally cannot crys
tallize to a significant
degree, hence it has a wide melting peak unlike that of either the
aliphatic or the aromatic
homopolymers, poly(butylenb adipate) and poly(butylene terphthalate), respectively
.
