Recumbency was defined as the sum of frequency of sternal, ventral and lateral recumbent positions. Movement behaviour was defined as the sum of the frequency of standing, sitting, kneeling on front legs and recumbency.
In the next step, the described behavioural traits were differentiated into 22 additional traits to analyse durations of different behavioural patterns with standing-up or descending from standing to lying in a special manner (Table 2). For instance, the trait ‘standing–sitting’ explained the duration of postural change from standing to sitting posture.
