More than one name may be assigned to a fishing area depending on the community that fishermen are from. One example is the fishing area located near the ‘‘Sarangonha’’ island, known by fishermen of the Z3 colony as ‘‘Canal Velho’’ while the fishermen from Va ´ rzea know it as ‘‘Croa de Santo Antonio’’ (Fig. 4). Additional field trips to the fishing communities were carried out to confirm the double designations for the same areas.
