That’s what we should talk about today.
Yes, good idea. Well, I think the first thing we need to do is set some objectives what do we want to achieve with our digital marketing? Who’d like to start?
Well, I think our first priority should be to increase traffic to the website.
I’m not so sure, Marijana. As Ail said earlier, this problem is more complicated than just how many people visit the site. We need to change people’s perception of what friendly world can offer them when they’re planning their holiday.
You’re right, Liam, but that’s very difficult to measure. It’s definitely an important long-term objective, but an increase in site traffic is measurable and should mean more online book sales. Would you agree, Marijana?
Well, not necessarily. When people visit the website, they don’t always buy books. A more important objective would be conversion – how much of that new web traffic is turned into online sales.
Marijana’s right. But conversion doesn’t have to visitor buy something else on the site – give us some information about themselves, add some content to the site, that kind of thing. It’s all about creating a dialogue with the customer so that we can persuade them to buy.
And if I can just add one more thing here: increasing site traffic is also a way of changing people’s perception of what we offer. If we can create a content-rich environment, a website that everyone wants to visit when they’re planning a holiday, then I’m convinced that people’s perception of us will change as a result, offering and communicate the benefits to our customers.
Yes, I absolutely agree. But there are other advantages, too; if we can really increase traffic, we can start to make more money from advertising.
Who would but advertising on the site? Other guidebook publishers?
No! think about it –if we’re getting a lot of traffic to, say, our Barcelona page, then why wouldn’t an airline that flies to Barcelona want to advertise on that page?
Yes, I think you’re right. Hotels, too.
Absolutely! And the increase in advertising revenue should help us pay for redesigning and launching the site.
Yes, that’s a good point.
Ok, so what we’re really trying to do here is to make customers more aware of the benefits we’re offering them. To help us achieve that, our immediate, short-term objectives are to improve the conversion rate of traffic to the site-which will eventually help us to grow online sales –and to generate advertising revenue.
Sounds good. /ok
Ok, great. Marijana, can you suggest some conversion metrics that we can measure-interactions per visit, value per visit, that kind of thing. Liam, can you set a target the increase in online book sales?
Yes/Ok sure.
I’ll set some target for the increase in advertising revenue , OK, let’s move no. we need to talk about…
