• Nurses have essential roles in attaining ethically and legally appropriate end-of-life care. These roles include education the patient and family about the patient’s condition and legal end-of-life choices, identifying the patient’s and family’s wishes for end-of-life care, articulating the patient’s and family desires to other members of the healthcare team, and assisting the patient family to obtain necessary and appropriate end-of-life care.
