The objective of this study was to identify the current situation and the method to cope with municipal solid waste management problems in Nong Kham Administrative Organization, Chakkarat District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. In this study, a survey was conducted to gather the opinion from administrative management, general staffs, local leaders, public health volunteers, and community population.
The result shows that people in the community often conduct inappropriate behavior in terms of solid waste management and disposal. The resulting problems include bad odor from open dump, flies and other disease transmitting rodents, and smoke from open burning. It is also found that the local administrative has yet to draft a master plan for its municipal solid waste management.
The survey results also suggest that possible ways to solve the problem are the cooperative measure between both the government and the community sectors, the community should participate in the drafting of the management plan and also involve in the site selection step. Furthermore, the local administrative should draft a master plan covering a middle term of 5 to 10 years which also conforms to the long term and short term planning. Other suggestions are the preparation for the planning, management, budget, personnel, regulation, etc.
