Another area for research concerns the evaluation and development of new risk-assessment tools, which safety professionals, employers, or safety committees can use to systematically identify appropriate behavioral targets for change. Various tools, such as root cause analyses of injuries (ABSConsulting, 2005) and PIC/NIC analysis of consequences (Agnew & Snyder, 2002; Daniels & Daniels, 2006), have been developed to aid the identification of at-risk behaviors. PIC/NIC analyses focus on the consequences of behavior from the employee's perspective, and whether those consequences are positive or negative in nature, immediate or delayed, certain or uncertain.
