During 2015 Peru's receptive tourism grew approximately by 7%, whereas the flow of national travelers may have reached 6%, National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) Chairman Jorge Jochamowitz projected on Wednesday.
"Tourism activity increased in 2015, maybe not at the pace registered two or three years ago, but certainly higher than that recorded in 2014," he told Andina news agency.
The Southern Circuit —which includes Cusco, Arequipa and Ica cities— remained as the most preferred area by foreign tourists.
Regarding domestic visitors, the Southern zone held the first spot. Nonetheless, Northern beaches experienced a "considerable" recovery last year.
El Niño
Likewise, he mentioned El Niño phenomenon is not generating negative impacts on the sector.
"As time passes, we witnessed that El Niño was not causing as much damage as expected [...]," he told.
