I try to understand the differences in the writings of Chart and Khamsing in the
context of Thai politics and Thai history with a breaking point of 1973-1976 and I’m
trying to say that the events of 1973-1976 represent a fundamental shift in Thai society
which would allow for a writer like Khamsing to exist prior to this break (who writes in a
more passive, humorously critical way) and also then for a writer like Chart to come
about after this break (who writes in a more head-on, vulgar, in your face way). These
differences can’t simply be because of a generational gap but must owe to something
outside of this. What do you think of this distinction?
