Asian markets were mixed in early trading on Tuesday ahead of full year economic numbers from China.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 was up just 0.23% at 16,995.20 points in early trade.
China's economic growth is expected to have slowed again in 2015 to just under 7%.
On Monday, Japanese shares hit a one-year low as oil prices dropped below $28 a barrel for the first time since 2003.
In Australia, investors were also cautiously awaiting the latest news about China's economy.
