WHO (1981) reported that gamma irradiation technology
has positive effects in preventing decay of food
products by eliminating microorganisms and by improving
the safety and shelf-stability. Irradiation technology
has various application possibilities such as reduction of
toxic or undesirable materials (Jo et al., 2001; Ahn et al.,
2002). Furthermore, irradiation exhibited advantages in
the extraction yields of Korean medicinal herbs (Byun
et al., 1999). In the present study, we examined the characteristics
and physiological activities of lyophilized
powder prepared from 70% ethanolic extract of citrus
peels.
