Our study confirms that the context in which organizations send their employees overseas is not homogeneous and should not be accepted as such, but rather it is more complex and multi-layered. The assumption, therefore, that short-term assignments are less complex is not straight-forward, specifically for the sample addressed in this paper, and needs to be unpacked for specific cases
in order to fully grasp the implications of short-term assignments. This underlines the need to unpack short-term assignments relative to organization and context.
