Interventions
Treatment as usual. The patients continued in whatever
ongoing care they were receiving. No medication guidelines were
provided as part of this protocol. To characterize treatment as
usual, a standardized service utilization interview was administered
to all participants. Briefly, 82% of the patients reported a
psychotropic medication visit in the 6 weeks preceding study entry,
but only 19% of the patients reported receiving any type of
psychotherapy (primarily group therapy) during the same period.
