The government ordered farmers in Chao Phraya river basin to stop pumping water for crops (bangkokpost, 2015). Beginning today, water supply to irrigation system for farming sector in the Chao Phraya river basin will be cut by almost half of earlier supply to ensure that there will be enough raw water for producing tap water for consumption in urban areas until the late arrival rainy season and returning normal early next month (Thai PBS, 2015). The reduction of water release from four major dams to feed farming zone from 28 million cubic meters to 18 million cubic meters (Thai PBS, 2015). Farmers in several drought-stricken provinces in the Chao Phraya River basin have rejected the government's calls to halt pumping water for agricultural use (Bangkokpost, 2015). They insisted that if no water is pumped to feed their paddy fields, their crops would suffer tremendous damage (Bangkokpost, 2015).
