As corrosion processes can seriously damage metallic
materials, most of the current research focuses on
materials with characteristics such as durability, me-
chanical resistance, attractiveness and also corrosion
resistance. Stainless steel is a versatile and highly
corrosion resistant material, being applicable in several
market sectors and contributing to the benefit and well-
being of our daily lives. Despite the innumerable
applications of stainless steels, from cutlery to highly
sophisticated uses in the chemical industry, the standard
color of stainless steels (light gray) does not always
harmonize with the environment in which they are used.
So, several coloring processes for stainless steel have
been proposed in the literature [1/11] in order to
increase its applicability to other market sectors such
as architectural and decorating projects.
