The study concludes that banks close to the minimum regulatory capital requirements improve their capital adequacy by increasing their capital and decreasing their risk taking. In addition, our results suggest that during economic crisis, banks tend to increase their risk taking. Evidence from different geographic areas and other type of banks, such as the Islamic banks may be subject of further research.
