There was consensus among participants that it was difficult to imagine what stroke symptoms would look and feel like even though they were able to name some of the symptoms. Pictorial examples of stroke symptoms may improve self-efficacy to
recognize symptoms. The American Heart Association (AHA) Spot a Stroke FAST campaign that depicts a woman with a facial droop and a man with arm weakness provides the visual representation of stroke symptoms desired by participants, but they did not recall seeing these messages (AHA,2013). Participants also found the multiple symptoms of stroke confusing
