Liquideliquid extraction of hexavalent uranium from 0.75 M nitric acid media by tributyl
phosphate (TBP)/kerosene was briefly studied, in the present work to eliminate interference
effects caused by Fe, Zr, Ln, Th and other elements in the determination of uranium.
For this purpose, all factors affecting the extraction process (time of mixing, TBP concentration,
temperature, pH, salting out effect, diluent type, effect of interfering elements) and
stripping processes were investigated. The free energy DG, enthalpy DH and entropy DS
were identified proving exothermic and spontaneous reaction of the present extraction
process. The proposed procedure was applied on the extraction and determination of
uranium in rocks using arsenazo III.
