Compounds having the formula H 2 S n (where n is typically 2–8) are known as sulfanes, with the num-ber of sulfur atoms indicated as the prefi x to the name sulfane (H 2 S 3 is trisulfane, H 2 S 6 is hexa sulfane,
etc.). Sulfanes containing longer chains of sulfur atoms can be prepared by the reaction of H 2 S 2 with
disulfur dichloride, S 2Cl 2 , (also known as sulfur monochloride).
