The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to explore the situation in school health practices including all responsible activities, school health responsible services, opinions relevant to key person in school health practices, a means / process of efficient activities done. Problems and obstacles in school health services, suggestion from school health personnel for more efficient from school health activities. Four hundred and forty health personnel responsible to school health from health centers selected by stratified sampling were answered the questionnaires by mail. The demographic and open-ended data were distributed to health centers around Thailand. between August and September 2009. The descriptive statistics and content analysis were used to elicit themes. The response rate of questionnaires return was 302 (68.6%). However, there were 2 health centers which do not have any school responsible. Therefore the total 300 (68.2%) questionnaires were analyzed.
The results revealed that most personnel working in health center responsible to school health school activities was the professional nurse (42.3%). The overall responsible activities beyond health work were curative (48.3 health promotion (43.3%). The school health practices were school health service (99.% health education (96.3%) environmental health (86.3%) and home and school relationship (72.3%). The opinions from samples studies for the core person to school health practices were school administrator (65.7%) and school health teacher (44.7%). The problems and obstacles in working could be divided into 4 aspects such as policy, personnel, collaboration, and resource mobilization. Suggestions to enhance efficient school health were practical policy and support from the school administrator. In conclusion, this study could gain the guideline for school health development by designating more practical policy for all sectors and specifying the scope of role and responsibilities of each sector relevant to school health activities.
