Summary and conclusions
A strong relationship between contingent reward and transformational leadership
and desired organizational outcomes is well established in the literature, and is
confirmed by this study. Bass (1998) has reported that working leader/managers
can be taught the precepts of contingent reward and transformational leadership. The
notion that organizations could train their managers to utilize these leadership
behaviors to impact organizational outcomes is intuitively satisfying but heretofore
unexamined in an industrial setting in which objective productivity measures were
available.
