over the past week, i have seen some people calling the students 'selfish' and just want to point out we should NOT say that. too naive, too impractical, too stubborn, or too idealistic. maybe. but selfish?
Here's the definition of selfish from the merriam-webster dictionary.
1 : concerned excessively or exclusively with oneself : seeking or concentrating on one's own advantage, pleasure, or well-being without regard for others
2 : arising from concern with one's own welfare or advantage in disregard of others
If they were concerned excessively or exclusively to oneself or disregarding welfare of others, would the students not prepare for their own exams, buy their own iphones and go sing and watch movies themselves??
Fundamentally, they want to fight for something that they believe betters society. We may disagree with what they are standing up for due to ideological differences, but we cannot call them selfish.
