many of our pupils; for whenever they need the help that can be found in books, not only for instructions or advice, but also for enlightenment or entertainment, they will be able to get it quickly and easily. The acquiring of this skill, therefore, is not just another school achievement that may or may not be useful after leaving school : it is a necessity for intellectual growth and nourishment. In school, too, it is useful : there is information to be gathered from a chapter in order to write a composition, or to answer a question in geography or science; and there are facts to be collected from books on hygiene, cookery, history, botany, etc.
