Although the mass was clearly visible on examination of
the patient's eye, this case demonstrates how ED ultrasonography
of the eye can rapidly identify the size and
extent of an intraocular tumor in the setting of acute angleclosure
glaucoma, leading to further diagnostic evaluation
and prompt surgical intervention. As the use of emergency
ultrasonography becomes more widespread, advanced
applications such as ocular ultrasound will likely meet
with greater acceptance and utilization, providing increasing
opportunities for ultrasound research and improved
patient care.
