Mike is an emergency medical technician (EMT) . EMTs are trained to provide emergency care to ill or injured persons until they can be transported to a hospital or receive a physician is care.
To become an EMT federal guidelines recommend that you be a high school graduate 18 years of age proficient in reading writing and speaking English be physically fit have a driver is license and have to drug dependency you must then complete a basic EMT training course through an accredited institution you will learn how to administer first aid and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
Eighty percent of EMTs have full-time jobs and work as volunteers for emergency rescue squads so after completing the basic EMT course you might want to take additional course you might want to take additional courses if you have interest in doing this full time these extra courses would train you to use a defibrillator which restores heart rhythm and administer the hormone epinephrine which is a heart stimulant in cases of shock
The most advanced course is for EMT paramedics the EMT paramedic can perform ECGs electrocardiograms use the defibrillator and administer prescribed drugs these people generally work full time as EMT paramedics
