Marking fish for field study is important to analyze their movements and population biology (Schreck and Moyle
1990; ASIH 1987). One must consider the effect of the marking on fish behavior and health. There are a variety of
identification methods, including fin-clipping, electrocauterization or freeze branding (under a local or a general anesthetic),
tattooing, acrylic paint injections, tagging, radiotelemetry, and radioisotope injections. Tagging is used most frequently and has been widely investigated.
