Before the World War II, this country is mainly engaged in agriculture, such as wheat, potatoes, corn and so on. The Hungarian economy is a medium-sized economy. After the upheaval in Eastern Europe, Hungary, like most of the Eastern European countries, experienced a transition from communism to market liberalization. Hungary is a member of the European Union, the World Trade Organization and the OECD. In 1996, the OECD accepted Hungary as its member and was the first international economic organization to accept Hungary's accession.
