According to management experts Drucker (2001) and Cohen (2004), the
imperative to examine theories cross-culturally emanated from the impact that rapid globalization has had on a leader's ability to navigate cultures. Drucker stressed,
"Tomorrow's business challenges are less technical than they are cultural. Culture must
be managed just like any other business phenomenon" (p. 3). Cohen (2004) offered the
perspective that "significant changes have occurred since the emergence of the
knowledge economy, demanding a recast of many roles of leaders. Today's leaders must
blend cultural definitions of leadership with multiple geographic influences" (p. 10).
