“The Earth on Turtle’s Back” talks about how much respect the Onondaga tribe has for the natural world. They believe that each creature has its own power. The book shows kindness and respect for one another. Even though the Sky Chief did not show any respect for the nature, when he asked the men to uproot the tree, he still respected the nature and his wife by uprooting the tree just to make her dream come true. Not only the Onondaga tribe showed respect for others, another tribe that respect is very important for them is the Modoc Tribe.
On “When Grizzlies Walked Upright” the Modoc tribe shows that their cultural beliefs matter a lot to them. It shows that they are peaceful and have really strong family values. Just like every other child is expected to follow rules from their parents, the Modoc tribe expects the same from their kids. On the book even though the Sky Spirit’s daughter did not obey her father and she ended up learning through the hardest way. The mother grizzly bear also showed respect for the chief of the Sky Spirits when she wanted to the Sky Chief to forgive her for keeping his daughter for so long. These Native Americans are/were very respectful people as read on both books.
‘Till this day tribes still value and respect one another.
