The first reason there are actually plenty of examples in the disagreement section of this poll. Poor grammar, bad spelling, incorrect use of "your and you're" and also "there, their, and they're". If we expect our future generations to essentially run the world we have built for them, I for one would like them to be better educated. I refuse to hand important decisions off to the next generation if they are unable to discern the difference between their and there. If there is no common sense in our future generations, how can we expect them to make important and potentially lethal decisions and actions? We can't. A basic skills test would show the school just exactly what they are dealing with. It does not determine intelligence nor would it help in job placement, but it would leave the child ready to take on the world.
