The above posts about Berkeley International School of Bangkok were surprisingly accurate. I was involved with this school for a considerable time during it formation thus making me uniquely qualified to tell you the inside story...
School Background and Owners
-The school is semi-secretly owned by Apichart Joorangkul, a young inheritor in the family which owns Summit Auto Parts. SAP is a billion dollar company which employs many thousands of factory shop workers in poor areas around South East Asia, China and India. They sell car parts to major international auto makers..
-their family is worth over half a billion dollars, clearly the president/owner could afford to start a tier 1 international school if it was his intention to do so (that is why many people have been excited about this new school)
-however, the owner and his inner circle lacks any background in educational administration, they simply decided it would be profitable start a school while diversifying assets (their cartel owns: hotels, shopping malls, golf courses, resorts, etc)
-having built their fortune in the Auto Parts Factory Industry, the school was established as a subsidiary to one of their many companies (that company is known as Summit Auto Seats) which makes seating parts for cars and specializes in visors - its located in a poor industrial area on the outskirts of Bangkok
-the school is covertly administered by the factory managers who conceal their identities while refusing to meet with parents, teachers, etc
-the factory managers demand to be involved with every small decision at the school and exert 100% control over all vital decisions. In contrast, respected international schools such as International School Bangkok and Bangkok Pattana are led by educational administrators with qualifications and experience in that field, parents are given a seat at the table... the schools are normally not-for-profit
-the school was planned to be called “Summit International Schoolâ€
