2.3. Sampling of possible food sources of sea cucumbers
The cultured red sea bream were fed commercial extruded pellets
(EP), which were formulated to contain ~60% fishmeal, ~20% grains,
~10% oil cake and others such as fish oil, ferment, calcium carbonate,
calcium phosphate and powdered seaweed. The feed contained ~50%
crude protein and ~10% crude lipid. During the culture experiment,
EP was sampled 7 times from the Hazama-ura and Gokasho-ura farms
for the analysis of stable isotopes.
In Experiment 1, settling organic matter (OM) was collected every
2 weeks or 1 month from the fish farmand control stations by deploying
sediment traps. Each sediment trap was equippedwith four acrylic cylinders
(74 mminner diameter and 300 mmhigh). The mouths of the traps
