Samples were extracted using methanol at 1:100 (w/v) concentrations, as described by Chun, Vattem, Lin, and Shetty (2005), with a slight modification. Approximately 100 ml of methanol were added to the one gram powdered samples. A solvent extraction was performed with stirring at room temperature for 24 h. The supernatants were collected by centrifugation at 2300×g for 20 min for the total phenolic content and antioxidant activity assays.
