Poor relationships with immediate neighbours can often be traced back to the exclusion of people from traditional lands when strict protected areas were gazetted (e.g. around Kruger NP), and results in hostility towards the protected area and wildlife in general, leading to increases in illegal activity and more negative perceptions of people-wildlife conflict (Lynn, 2010).
